Trapeze to expand ITS offering
New division will deliver integrated, end-to-end ITS solutions
May 3, 2004 (APTA Bus & Paratransit Conference, Denver, CO)-- Trapeze announced today that it is creating a new division to focus on wide-area intelligent transportation solutions (ITS).
Building on its base in transportation management software systems, Trapeze will offer end-to-end ITS systems to the fixed route and demand response sectors to ensure a seamless flow of information to and from vehicles, back office systems and management information systems.
The company has created the division by teaming up with Future Transit. Based in Cedar Rapids, IA, Future Transit is developing the next generation of turnkey ITS systems for the community transit industry.
“This is a natural extension of our existing ITS business and our core offering,” explains Mark Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Trapeze. “Our ITS, traveler information, scheduling, operations and planning applications currently interact with a variety of hardware and software systems. This new division will allow us to focus on previously unaddressed markets. By helping community transportation providers integrate disparate ITS elements, Trapeze will enable them to better collect, analyze and disseminate information throughout their organizations, including at the enterprise level.”
Gregory Tomsic has joined Trapeze as Vice President and General Manager of the Future Transit division. Mr. Tomsic brings more than 25 years of experience in the transportation industry, including a decade with a major international supplier of in-vehicle equipment and city-wide ITS solutions, primarily for transit. He founded Future Transit earlier this year.
“This is a crucial time in the evolution of ITS, and we are ideally positioned to offer the industry both the technical acumen and business understanding to build tightly coupled, customer-centric systems that enable data to move from vehicle to control center to boardroom,” Mr. Tomsic says. “The industry is looking for stable, trusted, domestic supplier who can lead the way in helping them build cost-effective systems with demonstrable return on investment.
The ITS division will continue bringing together best-of-breed hardware and software that will enable transit agencies to operate more efficiently with real-time data from on-board systems including vehicle location, automated faring systems and passenger counting.
