Trapeze Trip Planner Launched by MBTA
Solution Supports Boston Area’s Multi-Modal Service
April 25, 2003 (Toronto, ON) – The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently introduced a web-based trip planning service to its public. Powered by Trapeze ATIS software, the Trip Planner is available on the MBTA’s web site, with which it is seamlessly integrated.
By entering a departure and a destination address, a date and a time, passengers immediately receive custom itineraries that include routes, stop locations, transfers, trip time, total fare and walking instructions. Itineraries can be optimized for least travel time, fewest transfers or shortest walking distance. Users can also specify that they require accessible transportation.
In addition to detailed travel itineraries, the public can use the online service to look up schedule information, service by locations, and bus stops nearest specified addresses.
The Trip Planner is currently averaging approximately 1,270 visitors and more than 260,000 hits per day. Since the service was launched in late March, MBTA has noticed a steady increase in usage.
Rick Bacchus, President of Trapeze Software Group, comments, “This project demonstrates the ability of the ATIS trip planner to support a truly multi-modal service that includes bus, light rail, commuter rail, subway, trolley and commuter boat.”
