Fairfax County Contracts Trapeze for Integrated Transit Information System

TORONTO, ON - Trapeze Software has been awarded a contract by Fairfax County, Virginia, to deliver an integrated transit information system for its Metrobus and FAIRFAX CONNECTOR fixed route services, and its FASTRAN paratransit service.

When complete, the system will include modules for:

- Fixed route definition, trip building, blocking, runcutting and rostering
- Paratransit client registration, scheduling and dispatching
- Customer feedback management of commendations and complaints
- Service area planning, demographic analysis and schedule adherence

The Trapeze system supports easy, centralized data entry and manipulation of fixed route scheduling data, along with real-time paratransit scheduling data. The database infrastructure will support multiple workstations and the needs of Fairfax County’s contractors at remote locations.

Trapeze provides an integrated approach for Fairfax’s transport operations. “Our systems use an ODBC-compliant relational database that provides a high level of data integrity and data sharing between modules and workstations,” said Trapeze president Rick Bacchus. “It also facilitates Fairfax’s reporting and analysis and will support their future expansion to additional technologies.”

Fairfax County is located in Northern Virginia and is part of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. The County’s population of nearly one million is served by several transit systems, including Metrobus, Metrorail, Virginia Railway Express, the FAIRFAX CONNECTOR, TAGS, a Springfield circulator, and FASTRAN. The FAIRFAX CONNECTOR carries 6.8 million passengers per year on 54 bus routes with 165 vehicles. FASTRAN, a paratransit service, provides 540,000 rides per year for disabled residents.
