Popular service for Traveline Scotland & Traffic Scotland now on two platforms
Trapeze has successfully launched an Android version of the groundbreaking mobile application created for Traveline Scotland in partnership with Traffic Scotland. Complementing the iPhone service launched last year, the new release makes this valuable selection of travel information available to a much larger proportion of mobile users.
The new multi-modal Android app covers the whole of Scotland and is both personalised and location-aware. Features include live and scheduled bus times, road traffic updates from Traffic Scotland, ferry departures, Glasgow Subway information, local taxi numbers and live news updates. Travellers can easily pinpoint nearby stops, stations and ferry terminals nearby, view them on an interactive map, or alternatively search by street, town and postcode.
Sales of Android devices have surged over the past 12 months and it is now firmly established as a key mobile platform for the coming years. With its wide and growing demographic it is now a core technology for effective distribution of travel information to people on the move. However, lack of financial motivation appears to be discouraging independent developers from creating innovative new services.
