Trapeze help Centro lead the way in PTE Smartphone Apps
Staverton, Wiltshire - March 22, 2012
New multi-modal services launched along with a major web upgrade
Trapeze has completed a trio of major projects to update and expand the suite of real-time information services provided by Centro. Travellers in the West Midlands can now make use of advanced multi-functional iPhone and Android apps, while the upgraded Live Travel Map website presents a wide range of transport data via an intuitive map interface. Following hard on the heels of the recent launch of London’s hugely successful Countdown II web and mobile services, these projects put Trapeze technology at the heart of information provision in Britain’s two largest cities.
The new mobile apps, the first to be launched by a PTE, bring together bus, rail and tram departures, traffic news, service alerts and ticketing info, giving the growing community of iPhone and Android users a convenient one-stop service for travel info in the West Midlands.
Centro chairman Councillor Angus Adams said:
“Being able to access location information, timetables and real time updates on your phone helps meet the demands of the modern commuter, as well as being of great benefit to people unfamiliar with the area.
“The launch of this app and our Twitter feeds represent a great step forward in not only modernising the way passengers get information about public transport, but also the way we engage with our passengers.”
The new iPhone and Android apps are free to download from the Apple App Store and Android Market respectively, and can be found here:

In parallel with the mobile apps, Trapeze has delivered a major upgrade to the implementation of Live Travel Map accessible from Centro’s website at http://netwmtravelmap.com. This popular service launched in 2008 has been completely refreshed using web 2.0 technologies for clarity, simplicity of use and performance.
“These services build on Trapeze’s long experience in handling complex transport data feeds and turning them into outstanding travel information tools. In large urban areas such as the West Midlands and London, people need and expect a clear and consistent set of travel tools, available on a range of devices, that enable them to access the relevant information whether at home, work or on the move”, said Peter Bell, MD of Trapeze Group (UK). “Trapeze’s Specialist PTI team has deep expertise across a range of web and mobile technologies to deliver this experience”.
