Test Development Engineer – 3 Month Contract

Salary between £20,000 - £25,000 per annum, pro rata
37.5 hours per week, based in Harpenden

We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer who can create a set of end-to-end
System tests, which can be run from a continuous integration framework.

The tests need to be capable of injecting test transactions at one system interface and interpreting results at several others.

Key duties:

  • Understand business workflow and existing manual test scenarios
  • Create test scripts capable of reproducible automation to mirror existing workflow and test scenarios
  • Integrate tests into build and test framework
  • Assist in deploying automated build and test framework
  • Review source code when appropriate to understand behaviour of the system
  • Test behaviour of the system against tests and confirm accuracy of tests
  • Communicate risks and uncertainties clearly
  • Plan your personal effort and provide a forward view of workload

You will have:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to design and code well in Javascript and Java
  • The ability to read and understand source code in at least one C-like language
  • Basic knowledge of SQL
  • An understanding of Internet Protocols – HTTP / TCP / IP / SSL / firewalls / routers
  • An understanding of Network Operations – primarily GPRS, however an appreciation of general data communication will be an asset

Beneficial but not essential to the role:

  • Ability to design and code in C# and Java
  • ITIL style level of awareness of sound practice in system change management and other aspects of network operations

Key duties include:

  • Acting as pro-active deputy to the Live Services Manager
  • Applying several years of customer service and administrative experience to making informed and critical decisions without management intervention
  • Providing a professional telephone and email support service to our customers
  • Developing an understanding of our products in order to diagnose and resolve support issues 
  • Logging, tracking and taking full ownership for incidents in our support systems
  • Working with our Live Service team and Software Development team to ensure customer issues are resolved.
  • Ensuring we meet our Service Level Agreements

You will have:

  • At least substantial proven senior experience of customer support tackling and resolving complex and unforeseen issues in a software product environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to interact well with clients and developers alike
  • Good Standard of Education, preferable to Further Education (but experience counts more than qualifications)
  • Experience of issue tracking systems
  • Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel (use of basic formulae essential)
  • It would be useful if you had a qualification in ITIL, but not essential
  • An interest in technology including software products, public transport, the internet & mobile would be helpful.

Key duties include:

Salary bandings: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (Staverton) or £40,000 - £48,000 per annum (London weighting) depending on skills and experience

We are looking for an experienced Mobile Applications Developer to take technical responsibility for projects involving a team of 2-5 developers, provide design and architecture for the projects they lead and promote best practices through use of extreme programming techniques such as pairing and test driven development.

Key duties include:

  • Recommend and promote new technology and best practice
  • Mentor team members to improve their architecture and design understanding skills
  • Maintain communication with the business team and customers, including directly
